It was a nice weekend of the weather and I took advantage of it the best I could. Although I needed to finish up all the course studies, the SUN was more important. It allowed me to recharge for the week ahead. I finished fairly strong last week and it is my goal to improve on that.
I will continue to trade all week and I’m hoping one of my accounts gets set up on Tradestation. Currently, I have one partially funded and the other is waiting on ETrade to move the funds over.
Without getting into too much detail, Think or Swim has now hit an all-time low for me. I was opening orders only to see them delayed and I couldn’t cancel them. On one trade I was lucky and on the other, not so much. Support got back to me an hour later telling me they were having issues. Meanwhile, I could have lost really big. I’ll explain this in more detail on the two stocks affected.
Trades Taken
The reason for the title of this post is because of APDN. It was a super high flyer this morning in the pre-market and I was looking to make an entry early in the regular session. I placed an entry on the second 2-minute candle looking for the opening price break. Although it went in my favor it moved up and down so quickly there was nothing I could do.
Take a look at the two charts below. These are 5-minute candles. Notice anything? I lost big on APDN on April 15th (Left). Look at today. The only thing different is the price. Also, look at how I point to the solid red line. These are the same lines on both charts. One is way above and the other is way below.
Lesson – Avoid this stock. A very whippy trader and not worth the beating I took at the beginning of the day.
APDN Profit and Loss = $175.53
I was watching MRNA after it made it’s first big move. I was looking for the break of the early high. The first time I traded it I took a small loss. It then tried again and I lost again. It was then time to look elsewhere. There was no follow-through.
MRNA Profit and Loss = $33.51
The stock I’ve been watching for weeks is CODX. I took an early breakout play on CODX only to see it go against me. Like MRNA I got back into the trade on the same break and it produced a nice winner.
CODX Profit and Loss = $53.15
I took a few setups on TSLA today. This was the stock of the day. On Friday it was taking a beating and today it had some squeeze action. I was able to get several break points in my trading today. By the way, this is only from trading 20-30 shares at a time.
TSLA Profit and Loss = $195.73
I was looking for NVAX to break early highs when all hell broke loose on Think or Swim. It definitely cost me money today. I didn’t know if my order went through. It turns out it did and I couldn’t do anything but watch the price drop. I would have had a small loss since I saw it not working but there was nothing I could do.
NVAX Profit and Loss = $49.47
ROKU was a nice player today. I took a couple of ROKU trades and it had a lot of momentum on some nice breaks. I had the chance to hold the last bit for the end of the day but I didn’t let that happen. Soon enough I will hold that extra bit to get as much as possible out of the trade.
ROKU Profit and Loss = $65.65
I was able to battle back after some quick losses. I was excited to get in the green by early afternoon. I was looking for some good setups but it was TSLA that took the prize. I look forward to working with Tradestation real soon. As soon as I do, I will let you know. Day Trading isn’t easy, especially when there are order and tech problems. I know I have to deal with this as a day trader. If I was in that first trade when this happened, my account would have taken a big hit. Let’s hope I don’t face issues like this in the future.
Total Profit and Loss = $59.38
